A Scenic Alpine Trek in Western Sichuan

Located in the Kangding region of Western Sichuan, Leduomanyin Ice Lake is considered one of the most beautiful trekking destinations in the area. The route passes through alpine meadows, flower-covered valleys, forests, glacial streams, and high-altitude wilderness surrounded by snow mountains above 6,000 meters.

The highlight of this journey is reaching the Ice Lake viewpoint beneath Leduomanyin Snow Mountain. Surrounded by glaciers, ice formations, and dramatic alpine scenery, the route offers an unforgettable opportunity to experience the beauty of Sichuan’s high mountains up close.

Explore Alpine Meadows and Wildflower Valleys

Trek through some of Western Sichuan’s most beautiful landscapes, including open grasslands, colorful alpine meadows, and peaceful mountain valleys. The scenery changes constantly throughout the route, creating excellent opportunities for photography.

A Remote High-altitude Camping Experience

Spend a night at a high-altitude mountain camp surrounded by snow peaks and wilderness. With approximately 25 km of trekking and around 1,000 m of elevation gain, this route provides an authentic outdoor experience while remaining accessible for well-prepared hikers.

Day 1 — Chengdu • Kangding • Laoyulin Village

Distance / Time: Approx. 250 km / 4 hrs driving
Altitude: Chengdu 500 m → Laoyulin 3,100 m
Accommodation: Laoyulin local guesthouse

Depart from Chengdu and travel west toward Kangding, entering the mountain landscapes of Western Sichuan. After arriving in Laoyulin Village, settle into the local guesthouse and prepare for the upcoming alpine trek.

Meet the trekking leader, check equipment, and receive preparation guidance before entering the high-altitude mountain area.

Day 2 — Laoyulin • Gexi Grassland • Shangriwuqie Camp

Distance / Time: Approx. 16 km trekking / 6–7 hrs
Altitude: 3,100 m → 4,300 m
Accommodation: Shangriwuqie Mountain Camp

Transfer from Laoyulin Village to Gexi Grassland and begin the trek through alpine meadows, forests, and open mountain valleys. The trail gradually climbs toward the high-altitude camping area beneath the surrounding snow peaks.

Continue through the beautiful alpine landscape toward Shangriwuqie Camp, where you will spend the night surrounded by mountains and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the plateau wilderness.

Day 3 — Shangriwuqie Camp • Ice Lake • Chengdu

Distance / Time: Approx. 21 km trekking / 6–8 hrs
Altitude: Highest point approx. 4,600 m
Accommodation: Not Included

Start early and trek approximately 3 km to reach Leduomanyin Ice Lake, where glacial landscapes, ice formations, and snow-covered peaks create one of the most spectacular scenes in Western Sichuan.

After enjoying the scenery and photography opportunities, return along the same route to Laoyulin Village before driving back to Chengdu. Arrive in Chengdu late in the evening.
