Brown exploring remote travel routes and landscapes in Western China

Brown L.

Kham Tibetan Region Specialist

“With over 16 years of inbound travel experience, I’ve spent years guiding travelers across the Kham Tibetan regions of Western Sichuan — from remote monasteries and grasslands to high mountain roads and local Tibetan communities.

I enjoy helping travelers experience the plateau in a slower, more personal, and culturally connected way.”

Cycle Across the Tibetan Plateau

Ride through high-altitude valleys, mountain passes, grasslands, Tibetan villages, and remote plateau roads stretching across the eastern Tibetan regions of western China.

Experience Authentic Khamba Tibetan Culture

Travel through traditional Kham Tibetan regions where monasteries, prayer flags, nomadic lifestyles, and deeply rooted spiritual traditions remain central to daily life.

World-Class Cycling Landscapes

Ride beneath sacred snow mountains, across open plateau scenery, through river valleys, alpine grasslands, and some of western China’s most visually dramatic cycling routes.

Expedition Support & Acclimatization Design

The route is carefully designed with rest days, support vehicles, acclimatization pacing, and flexible riding distances to balance challenge, safety, and enjoyment at high altitude.

Ride Beyond Mainstream Tibet Tourism

Unlike traditional Lhasa-focused routes, this expedition explores the less-traveled Tibetan regions of Kham where encounters with local communities and untouched landscapes feel more authentic and immersive.

Day 1 — Arrival in Chengdu

Arrive in Chengdu and prepare for the Tibetan Plateau cycling expedition with bike setup, guide briefing, and acclimatization preparation.

Day 2 — Chengdu to Kangding

Begin the overland journey toward the Tibetan Plateau, entering the mountain regions west of Chengdu and gradually ascending toward Kangding.

Day 3 — Kangding to Xinduqiao

Cycle into the famous photography landscapes of Xinduqiao, known for Tibetan villages, grasslands, rivers, and dramatic plateau light.

Day 4 — Xinduqiao to Bamei

Ride through highland valleys and Tibetan settlements surrounded by grasslands, prayer flags, and distant snow mountain scenery.

Day 5 — Bamei to Daofu

Continue deeper into Kham Tibetan regions along quieter plateau roads passing traditional villages and wide alpine landscapes.

Day 6 — Daofu to Luhuo

Ride through increasingly remote plateau scenery surrounded by sacred mountains, Tibetan grasslands, and high-altitude landscapes.

Day 7 — Luhuo to Ganzi

Cycle toward Ganzi County through open Tibetan plateau scenery with opportunities to experience local village life and monastery culture.

Day 8 — Rest Day in Ganzi

Acclimatization and recovery day in Ganzi with time to explore local Tibetan communities, monasteries, and plateau town life.

Day 9–11 — Ganzi to Dege via Manigange

Continue northward through some of the most remote regions of Kham Tibet toward Dege while cycling beneath dramatic mountain landscapes and sacred plateau environments.

Along the route, experience quieter Tibetan regions far beyond mainstream tourism while gradually approaching the cultural heartlands of Tibetan Buddhism.

Day 12–13 — Baiyu & Yarchen Gar Region

Ride through remote Tibetan Buddhist regions surrounding Baiyu and Yarchen Gar, one of the largest Buddhist monastic communities in Tibetan regions outside central Tibet.

Rest day and slower pacing allow time for acclimatization, photography, and deeper cultural encounters within the plateau environment.

Day 14–16 — Xinlong, Litang & Plateau Cycling

Continue cycling through high-altitude Tibetan regions toward Litang surrounded by grasslands, sacred mountains, yak pastures, and endless plateau roads.

Additional rest time in Litang helps balance high-altitude riding with recovery while allowing opportunities to experience one of the world’s highest Tibetan towns.

Day 17–18 — Return Toward Chengdu

Cycle back through Tagong and mountain landscapes west of Kangding before returning toward Chengdu with support logistics.

Day 19 — Departure from Chengdu

Transfer to the airport and conclude the Kham Tibetan cycling expedition across the eastern Tibetan Plateau.
